Kitchen & Meals

View of the Kurilpa kitchen

Kurilpa’s kitchen has pride of place in the centre and provides nutritious vegetarian meals to the children and staff everyday. Our cook, Lizzie is an integral part of our team and much like a home, the kitchen is at the heart and centre of Kurilpa. All meals – lunch, morning and afternoon tea – are included in the daily fee.

Kurilpa has offered a lacto-ovo vegetarian menu since 1997. As well as providing optimum health, Kurilpa’s plant-based menu reduces the centre’s eco-footprint and is culturally inclusive. Kurilpa is a member of Nutrition Australia Queensland and regularly makes use of their advisory service. If you would like to offer menu suggestions, please do not hesitate to talk with Lizzie, leave a message or the recipe in the communication box.

BCC Eat Safe Rating - 5 starsThe Kurilpa kitchen runs a Food Safety Program to ensure food is delivered, stored, prepared, cooked and served safely. The kitchen maintains a 5 star food safety rating issued by the Brisbane City Council, which is the highest rating available.

SPECIAL DIET

If your child has a food allergy or requires a special diet please inform the Director before your child commences at the centre. On enrolment you will need to complete an ‘Individual Health Management Plan’ form and discuss your child’s requirements with kitchen staff.

The Kurilpa Cookbook - grab your copy today

A new vibrant edition of the Kurilpa Cookbook has recently been published, containing a selection of nutritious vegetarian recipes that will please not only your littlies, but the whole family as well!  Contact the office or talk to one of our team to grab your copy. This is a great book that is one of the major fundraising projects for Kurilpa – many thanks to Lizzie & Louis for all of their hard work.

Birthdays

Birthdays are special occasions for children and we love celebrating children’s birthdays here at Kurilpa. If you wish, you may bring in baked goods for your child to share with the group for afternoon tea. Cupcakes are ideal as they are easily manageable by the children and team members. There is a yummy recipe for cupcakes in the Kurilpa Cookbook (contact the office to grab your copy). We ask that families bring along a full ingredient list for the goods – including store-bought items you may use to decorate, such as sprinkles. This is so we can ensure the safety of children with food allergies. Please ensure there are no nuts. Party foods such as lollies or chips are not appropriate.
