Clay provides such an expansive range of opportunities for our Toddlers to build upon a range of skills. It’s manipulative – working fine motor skills with pinching, prodding and scraping our fingertips through the squishy surface. It’s a side by side (parallel) learning opportunity – we observe, copy, repeat and question what our friends are creating. It pushes our curiosity – why is it different to playdough? To dirt and mud? What properties are similar to what I’ve already explored? What makes it different? What happens when it dries out or we add more water? What a joy filled experience a great lump of clay can be!
